A couple of years ago, a number of non-profit representatives participated in a “Hartford Cares” forum organized by Leadership Greater Hartford aimed at helping the nonprofit and philanthropic community respond more effectively to basic human needs. At the request of the City of Hartford, LGH is working again on this challenge and invite you and others to the Pope Park Recreation Center on Wednesday, March 16 at 3:30pm for a 90-minute gathering.
What: Organizing to Protect the Safety Net
Who: You, your colleagues and constituents
When: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 3:30 pm
Where: Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pope Park Drive
Free parking and light refreshments are provided
As you know, Governor Dannel Malloy has been holding meetings throughout the state to hear from concerned citizens and to take questions on his proposed budget. The Governor's budget forums give the public an opportunity to share their stories with Mr. Malloy and to ask him to continue his efforts to protect the safety net – especially in these difficult economic times.
The old saying "there is strength in numbers" is true. What is also true is that most of us are so busy serving our constituents that we have not had time to come together and pool our strength - but it is now time to do just that. We implore you, your colleagues and especially those you serve to join other caring citizens committed to “protecting the safety net.” Please make plans to bring yourself and others to the budget forum scheduled in Hartford on Monday, March 21 at 7pm at the Legislative Office Building.
But first, let’s prepare for this forum!
We invite you and others to the Pope Park Recreation Center on Wednesday, March 16 at 3:30pm for a 90-minute gathering where we will:
* learn and discuss the implications (both good and bad) of the Governor's proposed budget on the "safety net"
* share the impacts reduced funding would have on our own organization's ability to meet basic human needs, and
* prepare to respond to the proposed budget at the upcoming forums and through other means
The Governor has invited the people of Connecticut to be a part of the budget debate. Let's get ready on March 16 to respond to that invitation:
What: Organizing to Protect the Safety Net
Who: You, your colleagues and constituents
When: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm
Where: Pope Park Recreation Center, 30 Pope Park Drive, Hartford
Free parking and light refreshments are provided
RSVP to this invitation by March 15, and please let me know how many others will join us in working to protect the safety net!
